| Generations Family Caregiver Support Program |
November is Family Caregiver Month...Celebrate Sharing Is Caring!
"There are only four kinds of people in this world:
- Those who have been caregivers
- Those who currently are caregivers
- Those who will be caregivers
- Those who will need caregivers."
Rosalynn Carter
The National Family Caregiver Support Program was established nationwide
by the Administration on Aging to help caregivers.
You are a Caregiver if you:
- Take a senior friend or family member to the doctor
- Make meals for a senior or family member
- Pick up medication from the pharmacy for a senior
- Wash a senior's laundry or mow their lawn
- Take a senior neighbor to church
- Take a senior grocery shopping
- Help a senior pay their bills
- Help a senior with any daily task
Nearly 25% of all households have at least one adult who has provided care for an elderly person at some point during the past 12 months. The findings are startling and are only expected to increase as the baby boom generation ages in the next 30 years.
The goal of the Family Caregiver Program is to help seniors stay in their homes independently for as long as safely possible.
Caregivers often underestimate the time required for caregiving and the impact on their obligations at work. The Generations Team understands the demands of caregiving and works to help caregivers explore options to lessen the caregiving burden.
The Family Caregiver Program also supports people who are caring for their senior parents and others in their homes by offering peer counseling, crisis intervention, and other services for caregivers. Free confidential information, assistance and counseling are provided by a Generations Family Caregiver Specialist.
The Generations Caregiver Specialist helps seniors and their caregivers by:
- Assessing their needs
- Identifying the most appropriate services to meet their needs
- Linking the older persons and caregivers to agencies providing these services.
